Day 10: Everest Base Camp

  • Elevation:  17,598
  • Oxygen: 53%

On the way to Everest Base Camp we passed Khumbu Glacier, the highest glacier and largest Glacier in Nepal.  This is where the Khumbu ice fall is, which is one of the most dangerous parts of the Everest ascent.  As I see it, I'm glad I am not going all the way to the summit.

Temperatures at Everest Base Camp are cold, but it's hard to describe how incredibly cold it really is.  Night time temperatures are about 6 degrees Fahrenheit.  Any exposed skin is just painful.  We sleep in tents here and there is a food tent set up for the group where we have our meals.  It's glamping at its best, but cold.  There is no light pollution up here and the stars are just amazing.  It's hard to describe the intensity of the sky when it's this dark.
